Descent Of The Holy Spirit
Courage To Live Your Life
Pleasing To God
Decent of the Holy Spirit
"But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name,
he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind,
whatsoever I shall have said to you."
-John 14:26
You may find it helpful to look at an artistic rendition of the Descent of the Holy Spirit or Pentecost. And or listen to some uplifiting music while meditating on this mystery.
The fruit of this mystery, third of the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary, is Love of God. Keep this scene in mind as you recite the rosary prayers and meditate on the meaning of Pentecost and how it fulfills the life of Jesus.
Let the peace and confidence that comes from through the gifts of the Holy Spirit permeate your life as you deepen your understanding of them while reciting the rosary prayers that focus on the life of Jesus and the apostles.
After the Ascension, the Apostles and Mary did as Jesus commanded and went to Jerusalem.
They stayed in the Upper Room where they prayed together for the coming of the Advocate, the Holy Spirit.
"And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever." -John 14:16
Suddenly a mighty wind came up and blew into the room.
Then above each of their heads appeared a tongue of fire.
"And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit."
Their souls were filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and they were able to speak in foreign languages.
This event, The Descent of the Holy Spirit, is called Pentecost and it is the birthday of the Church.
St. Peter went out where a crowd had gathered.
This man who had denied Jesus just a short time ago, preached about the Kingdom of God and about Jesus.
"Peter said to them: Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." -Acts 2:38
That day 3,000 people converted and were baptized.
Scripture verses used for the above commentary were take from the Douay-Rheims bible. If you are looking for a more modern language version of the Descent of the Holy Spirit,
our recommendation would be the St. Ignatius Press Bible.
If you would like to read the full scriptural account of the of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, it can be found in Acts 1:12-14 and Acts 2:1-8.

Below are some meditations to think about as you pray...
Consider this promise from Jesus...
"For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." -Matthew 18:20
At Pentecost, the disciples were united in prayer.
This event illustrates how you will be rewarded if you unite with others prayerfully for a good cause.
Mary was present at Pentecost - the Descent of the Holy Spirit.
Once again you can see how good things are obtained through Mary.
She was praying with the disciples for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
And their prayer was answered.
Pray always that God will continue to send good men to lead the Church.
Men who have the same faithfulness to prayer and discerning the will of God just as the original leaders of the Church.
Mary was present among the apostles.
-
Mary is not one of the apostles. No, she is queen of the apostles.
-
Mary is not a priest. No, she is queen of priests.
-
Mary is not the Church. No, she is the mother of the Church.
You cannot have Jesus as your King if you don't have Mary, His mother, as your Queen.
In the same way Jesus came into the world by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus' spiritual body, the Church, began in the world at the Descent of the Holy Spirit.
Mary was a part of both these events.
Mary patiently awaited the fulfillment of Jesus promise.
Imitate her by being patient and steadfast in your prayers.
Look at the transformation the Descent of the Holy Spirit created in St. Peter.
He denied Jesus and cowardly ran away wanting nothing to do with Jesus' suffering and death.
Now you see him out preaching to thousands who are so inspired by his witness that they ask to be baptized.
He is the first and most drastic example of the changes the Holy Spirit can make in human souls.
Pentecost in the Old Testament was a reminder of God giving the 10 Commandments to Moses.
Christian Pentecost is celebrated in memory of the birth of the Church when the gifts and graces of the Holy Spirit were bestowed on the apostles and continues on to all members of the Church.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit made the apostles brave men who were full of faith.
They became bearers of good news.
These gifts were not given to those present exclusively.
Rather they were given to all members of Christ's Church. "That He [the Holy Spirit] may abide with you for ever." -John 14:16
'For ever' in this verse means that the Holy Spirit will be with the Church throughout all generations, that it would not end with the apostles.
"And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him; the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and of godliness. And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord." -Isaias 11:2-3
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are...
-
wisdom
-
understanding
-
counsel
-
fortitude
-
knowledge
-
piety
-
and fear of the Lord
How am I using the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given to me.
Those who abandoned Jesus before He died, now would defend Him even to their own martyrdom.
Are you prepared to defend Jesus no matter the cost?
Prayer After Meditation Upon
The Descent Of The Holy Spirit
Dear Jesus, Thou hast sent the Holy Spirit to complete the work that Thou began.
Thank you for the gifts bestowed on Thy Church and upon me.
I am truly sorry for the times I have taken these gifts for granted and not used them for the good of Thy Church.
Have mercy upon us all especially for those who have committed sins against the Holy Spirit.
Those who deny the truth even when it is staring them in the face. I know these sins are so prevalent in my own time when abortion is the law of the land and Christian families are attacked daily.
Please soften human hearts to accept the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that they will use them for the good of Thy Church and of the world.
And I ask especially for myself that I may become a strong defender of the faith and that I may not be afraid to even lay down my own life for love of Thee.
Amen.

Prayer To The Holy Spirit
Used By The Catholic Church
Prayer To The Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,
and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
O comforter, to Thee we cry,
O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above.
Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;
Thou, finger of God's hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father,
Thou Who dost the tongue with power imbue.
Kindle our sense from above,
and make our hearts o'erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high
the weakness of our flesh supply.
Far from us drive the foe we dread,
and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide,
turn from the path of life aside.
Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow
the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed, of both the eternal Spirit blest.
Now to the Father and the Son,
Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter,
henceforth by all in earth and heaven.
Amen.
