Trust In The Face Of Fear

by Kent
(DC)

The Annunciation is the best example of trust in God in the face of fear. While meditating on the Annunciation, try to put yourself in Mary's position. Life as you know it and the life you were expecting to have would be gone.

This child will be the Son of God. Do you think that will make parenting easier? Quite the opposite; this is perhaps the heaviest burden of responsibility ever placed on any parent in the history of the world. There is probably no expectation that any of this would be easy. The scriptures are filled with stories of people doing God’s work that suffer terribly – think Job, Noah, Moses, etc.. Mary would have known this. You are being asked to sign up for a life filled with strife, suffering, and any manner of hardship. The right answer by almost any measure is ‘thanks, but no thanks’.

But Mary says yes, "I am the servant of the Lord" and fully knowing the perils and the difficulties, accepts.

I often have to remember, Jesus was both God and man, but Mary was fully human albeit without a fallen nature.

Would I be equally willing to accept responsibilities and endure whatever hardships may come in the service of the Lord?

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
