When To Focus On Meditations

by Serry
(Northern California)

When are we to focus attention on the meditations?

I've heard we might meditate 15 minutes before starting a 5-decade Rosary; or 3 minutes before each decade; or briefly during each Hail Mary; and for all I know, perhaps any of those would do. (I can't seem to pray Hail Marys and meditate on a mystery at the same time: hence the question!)

The Golden Question
by: The Rosary Team]

Dear Serry,

Thank you for this fabulous question!

I am going to start with your final comment then work my way up. Here we go...

...You said that you can't pray Hail Marys and meditate on the mysteries at the same time, well, that is a common problem, especially for beginners.

Depending on the type of learner you are, you may try different approaches. Visual learners would do well to purchase a Rosary book with pictures, or make one. They may find great help with the videos on this site. (Found in the Rosary Media section on the left navbar)

If you are more of an audio learner, you will want to read brief meditations as you begin each mystery. You will find these in the Rosary Meditations Center by clicking on the link in the right navbar. Also, read the Scriptural accounts of each mystery slowly, envision yourself there as a witness. This too can be found on this site on the left navbar with the link that reads: Scriptural Rosary.

You may even deepen your meditations by illustrating the mysteries as you listen and pray along with an audio Rosary (Rosary Media) or even coloring on coloring pages.

Your question is the golden question for this site. It is what this site is all about. Helping and encouraging people to make use of all these methods to aid and enhance their Rosary devotion.

Moving on to your first question. Well you guessed it, all of those methods will do. You can meditate 15 minutes before the Rosary or a few minutes before each decade or during each Hail Mary or as you as you are praying. Your goal is to unite both vocal and mental prayer. And this like anything else takes practice and dedication.

P.S. Ask Mary to help you.

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
